Second half struggles for Central State in loss to Benedict
COLUMBIA, South Carolina – The Central State Marauders were unable to keep up with Benedict in a 89-70 road loss on Saturday.
 
The loss drops CSU to 2-3 overall with a 2-1 record in the SIAC. BC improves to 4-3 on the year and 2-1 in conference play.
 
Trailing by a basket at half, CSU remained in the game throughout the early stages of the second half. With the score tied, 54-54, BC went on a 17-2 run while capitalizing on four Marauder turnovers during that span. Up by a comfortable margin with eight minutes remaining, BC closed out the contest by making an efficient seven of nine field goal attempts and went on to win by 19.
 
CSU was plagued by turnovers throughout the afternoon as the team recorded 21 giveaways to BC's 10 miscues. BC held a 25-6 edge in points scored off turnovers. BC also had the advantage in second chance points, 12-2.
 
Brandon Smith led BC with 17 points. Malachi McCoy had 12 points and 14 rebounds.
 
Willie Jackson paced CSU's offense by going 5-for-10 from beyond the arc to finish with a game-high 21 points. 
Marcus Scott V recorded 16 points, nine rebounds and five assists. 
Sean Paige had 14 points while battling through foul trouble throughout the game.
 
 
CSU plays at Allen University on Monday at 7:30 pm.
