Solvita

Corporate Partner Solvita to Host Blood Drive

10/23/2024 3:21:00 PM

We are proud to announce that Solvita is a proud sponsor of Central State Athletics. For the 2024-2025 season Central State University Athletics has partnered with Solvita to host two Blood Drives. The first of which begins Thursday November 7, 2024. The time slot will be from 11am-2pm in the Norman E. Ward Sr.-Ballroom located on CSU's main campus. We would like an all-hands-on approach as we gear up for our first of two blood drives.
Here are a few key points to why African American blood donation is important:
  • Sickle Cell disease (SCD) is a genetic blood disease that effects more than 100,000 Americans nationwide, 98% of which are African American.
  • SCD patients rely on regular blood transfusions throughout their lives to help prevent sickle cell complications, such as organ and tissue damage, severe pain and strokes.
  • It is important that the blood they receive be the most compatible match possible, which generally comes from someone of the same race or similar ethnicity.
  • African American individuals make up approximately 13% of the population, but less than 3% are blood donors.

Donating blood can make a difference in the lives of patients with sickle cell disease as well as moms with complicated childbirths, people fighting cancer, and accident or trauma victims.  A single blood donation may even help save more than one life!

With the help of willing donors, one by one we can help save a life. Central State Athletics and Solvita are setting a goal of at least 30 registered donors to help fight the cause. Sickle Cell disease not only affects people we don't know but also affects people who may be close to us. CSU fans, students, staff, faculty, and athletes be a part of this great cause!
