T&F Recap: Amarianna Lofton competes at NCAA Outdoor Championships; first CSU women to compete on NCAA national stage

PUEBLO, Colorado - Amarianna Lofton represented Central State University at the NCAA Outdoor National Championships in Colorado last week.

The freshman from Orlando, Florida solidified herself as one of the top high jumpers in NCAA Div. II with a leap of 1.65m which placed 16th in the national field. The national competition capped off a year in which Lofton recorded five wins in the high jump which included a NCAA Div. II school record 1.73m at Slippery Rock University earlier in May. Lofton also won at the SIAC Championships in Atlanta, Georgia.

She is the second female student-athlete to qualify for the NCAA Div. II Outdoor Championships and became the first Lady Marauder to compete on the NCAA Div. II national stage. Former CSU hurdler Donesha Cartwright qualified for nationals in 2020 but was unable to compete as the event was cancelled due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
