Box Score Lady Marauders earn first road win with 73-66 victory over Alderson BroaddusPhilippi, WVÂ - Traveling to take on the Battlers of Alderson Broaddus, Central State's frontcourt led the Lady Marauders to a 73-66 win on Thursday.
The Battlers got off to a strong start, leading by as many as 5 midway through the 1st half. A 3 pointer from Sydney Shaffer gave the Battlers a 17-12 lead with 8:51 to go in the period. CSU responded with a 9-0 run en route to a 27-23 lead at half. CSU forward
Kourtni Perry finished the half with 10 points to lead all scorers.
Alderson Broaddus recaptured the lead at the 18:46 mark of the 2nd stanza and led by as many as 5 on two occasions. Two three pointers by
Iniquia Snell on back-to-back possessions helped CSU cut into the Battler lead. Forward
Amanda Pierce knocked down two free throws to give CSU their first lead since the 16:21 mark. With both teams trading baskets on their next 3 trips down the floor, the Battlers led 60-59 with 5:29 remaining. In danger of losing their 5th straight game, CSU responded with a 10-0 run. Snell converted two free throws at the 2:27 to put the Lady Marauders up 69-60. CSU's defense would help preserve the victory, holding the Battlers to just one field goal and forcing three turnovers.
Snell and Perry led all scorers in the game with 18 points each. Perry also grabbed 13 rebounds for her third consecutive double-double performance.
Amanda Pierce teamed up with Perry in the frontcourt to finish with 16 points, 13 rebounds and 3 blocks.Â
"Kourtni and Amanda have been playing really well together as of late," CSU Head Coach
Sheba Harris said. "As a team, we had another 60 rebound performance, 33 on the offensive end. We still have to do a better job of finishing around the basket."
A credit to CSU's first road win over the season came from the team's advantage in the paint. Perry and Pierce combined for 30 of the Marauders' 48 points inside compared to the Battlers' meager 22.
Improving to 3-8 overall with a 1-2 mark in the G-MAC, the Lady Marauders travel to face Davis & Elkins on Saturday at 2 pm
