Marauders run to 31-6 victory over Concordia (AL)

Box Score Wilberforce, OH -- Playing in front of their home fans for the first time since the season opener, the Marauders gave the crowd a 31-6 win over Concordia (AL) College during Saturday's Homecoming.

Participating in his last CSU Homecoming game, senior quarterback Michael Wilson led the Marauders on a 14 play, 77 yard drive. Wilson capped off the drive with a 10 yard touchdown run to give CSU a 7-0 lead late in the 1st quarter. Moses Vine, a freshman from Washington, D.C., extended the lead to 14-0 with a 18 yard touchdown run to put the finishing touches on a 70 yard CSU drive. Kicker John Adams converted a 42 yard field goal with 2:37 to go as the Marauders took a 17-0 lead into the locker room at halftime.

CSU head coach Cedric Pearl continued a consistent diet of running plays in the second half. The Marauders went on a 80 yard touchdown drive which was finished off by Wilson's second rushing touchdown of the afternoon. Wilson would connect with Leon Chambers through the air to put the Marauders up 31-0.

The Marauder defense, which gave up just 6 points on a late 4th quarter touchdown, recorded 4 takeaways on the afternoon on interceptions from Rem Johnson, Kjamus Sanders, Okoye Bozeman and Dashad Tucker. Strong safety Joseph Blount finished with a game high 10.5 tackles. Jamal Robinson and Joe Hamilton each record a sack in the victory. 

The Marauders, which had dropped their last 5 games, broke the losing streak thanks to a running attack that accumulated 289 yards, with 159 coming from the legs of  Deandre Grant. The Marauders nearly had three times as many yards as the Hornets, who managed just 103 yards on the ground. 

With the victory, Coach Pearl and the Marauders improve to 2-5 overall. Concordia dropped to 1-6. 

Central State returns to SIAC action at home next Saturday when the Marauders host Stillman College. Stillman enters the game at 4-3 overall with a 3-1 mark in the conference. Central State is currently 1-3 in SIAC play. Saturday's kickoff is scheduled for 1:30 pm.
