Central State Stunned by Ohio Dominican
CSU Men's Upset
Men's Basketball Team -- upset

The Marauders men’s basketball team traveled to Ohio Dominican University Wednesday night, riding a six game winning streak.  Coming off a victory in dramatic fashion against Kentucky State, the Marauders were looking for their seventh win in a row.

For the second game in a row, the result was decided in the final seconds.  On Saturday night, the Marauders were victorious, as Gino Smith laid one up with 17 seconds left.  Wednesday night, the Marauders found themselves on the other end, loosing in the final seconds of the game 67-68.

Sophomore point guard, Cole Prophet led the team with 19 total points, shooting 8-13 from the floor, draining one three-pointer, and 2-2 from the line.  Anthony Passley, junior forward, also had a solid shooting performance going 7-10 from the field, one three-pointer, and 2-2 from the line.  Passley, along with Damone Pledger and Gino Smith led the team in rebounds with 6.

The Marauders looked to be in control, leading the Panthers by as much as 9 with 7 minutes left to go in the first half.  Ohio Dominican rallied the rest of the way and closed the gap to one point.

Cole Prophet started the second half with a bucket from long range.  Anthony Passley added one from the field, moments later, to give the Marauders a six point lead.  The two teams battled back and forth, with the Marauders leading for the majority of the half.  With a 1:30 left in the game the Marauders had a slim four point advantage.  The Panther’s John Trew hit one from the perimeter closing his team’s gap to one point.

The Marauders answered right back when Gino Smith cleaned up a missed three-pointer by Wesley Jones, increasing the lead to three.  On the ensuing possession, John Trew drew a foul by Cole Prophet, from three-point territory.  Trew made all three foul shots and tied the game with 37 seconds left on the clock.  Anthony Passley, with 17 seconds left, hit a jumper to give his team a two point advantage.  John Trew, in the final seconds hit one from downtown to give his team a one point lead.

Timeout was called by Central State with one second left, but the last second desperation was not successful.

John Trew led the Panthers with 22 points, scoring three from long range.  11 of those points came in the last 3 minutes of the game.  His effort in the closing minutes was a big part of the Panthers victory on Wednesday night.

Central State losses their fourth game of the season, bringing their record to 16-4.  Ohio Dominican improves their record to 8-13.  February 4th is the next game for the Marauder men’s basketball team. They will face Wilberforce University at home.

The Marauders have a perfect record at the Beacom-Lewis Gym, 8-0.
