Women's Basketball Falls to Ohio Dominican, 64-75

            The Central State University women’s basketball team comes up short against Ohio Dominican University Tuesday night at the Beacom Lewis Gym.  Despite a great effort by the Marauders, the Panthers would hand them their third straight loss dropping their record to 6-11.  The Panthers improve their record to 10-8.

           

Ashley McGee
Junior point guard Ashley McGee scored a game high 16 points sinking 7 out of 21 from the floor and scoring 2 from the free throw line.  She would also record 6 boards, 4 assists and one steal.  McGee has scored in double digits for the fourth straight game and is second in total points for the season with 187.

            Teammate Brooklyn Morrow, junior forward, scored 15 points and a game high 12 rebounds.  For the fourth straight game she has led the team in rebounds recording a total of 39 boards in the last 4 games.  Sophomore guard Laura Longmire would come away with a game high 4 steals and  senior guard Linda Ubadigbo would come off the bench scoring 5 points and one assist.

            The Marauders played a good first half leading by as much as 10 points halfway through the period.  The Panthers would rally to close the gap to one point to end the half.  The team stats for the first half were almost identical both teams shooting slightly over 40 percent from the floor.  Central State would record 20 boards, one more than the Panthers, recording 19. 

            After the break, the Marauders would score first when Ashley McGee makes a jumper to give her team a 3 point lead.  Moments later the Panthers would score 11 unanswered points to regain the lead 33-41.  The Marauders got some momentum when they closed the gap to three with three minutes left to go in the game.  The Panthers would quickly increase their lead to nine when Kristen Ruen scored 6 straight points.  Time would run out on the Marauders as the Panthers would add a couple foul shots to end the game with an 11 point lead.

            For the game, the Marauders shot 40 percent from the floor and left the game with a goose egg from the perimeter going 0-12.  Ohio Dominican went 46 percent from the floor and a clear advantage shooting 30 percent (6-20) from the outside.  The Panthers made over 60 percent from the free throw line and the Marauders made just under 60 percent from the line. 

            Kentucky State University will be at the Beacom Lewis Gym this Saturday (1/23/10).  Tip off at 5pm.  The Thorobrettes have a record of 7-5 overall for the season.
